200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training

Ready to step to the front of the room or simply learn more about yoga and not teach, self-study or svadhyaya is essential to taking your practice further.

Take a chance on yourself.

What You’ll Discover in the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training

Strength & Stability

Integration of Mind, Body and Breath

When the body, breath and mind are cohesively aligned, you express power with ease and grace. This is fundamental not only to managing your prana (life force) but also to effectively reduce your physical or mental limitations.

As you learn to embody this peaceful and determined attitude during your practice, you begin to carry it into your daily lives, meeting your challenges with a sense of peace and self-mastery.

We have witnessed an increase in confidence and growth in students as they progress through the program that has extended beyond the classroom. What a lovely way to grow even if you choose not to teach.

Tools & Techniques

Tradition Supported by Science

The Transitions Yoga approach is to blend the traditional teachings of yogic sages with modern scientific perspectives of neuroscience, psychology, physiology and functional anatomy. You’ll learn to use a wide variety of yogic tools such as asana, bandhas, pranayama, subtle energy bodies and meditation for an experience of personal development and a deep yogic practice guided by timeless philosophy.

We stress the importance of teaching who's in front of you and creating classes that are inclusive, diverse and creative. Learning how to offer modifications, posture options, clarification of contraindications, and how to create classes with progressive levels of difficulty.

Embodiment

Through Practice & Teaching

This is a highly experiential course. You’ll learn, practice, and then teach the concepts and tools we’ll share. This will afford you a greater sense of embodiment and mastery, so you can share what you learn with confidence. You’ll develop a new appreciation of your own abilities that will sustain your inspiration and growth for years to come.

By the end of the 200 hour training you will learn skills for teaching a 1 hour yoga class. These new skills will be put to the test by teaching a one hour class to the public class called Check My Vinyasa.

While teaching a 60 minute class may seem impossible now, you'll start using your voice the first weekend and keep adding to your skills.

Meet the Lead Teachers

Stephanie and Sigrid are both E-RYT500 certified. Stephanie has also completed her 1000-hour Yoga Therapy Training (and 2 - 200 hour classes). Between the two there are over 30 years of teaching experience, that's a lot of time in front of students. We both have a passion for sharing knowledge, mentoring and watching students transform into a truer version of themselves.

Our training is in-person, so you get continued one-on-one contact with all teachers. It also helps us tailor the experience to the students that attend training. In training, you’ll teach students in person and see how bodies actually move or don't move. All of these are key components to creating the best learning environment for the student, and teachers leave with a stronger skill set than learning other programs that are not 100% in-person.

However, it's understandable that you may not be able to foresee every conflict. Check your calendars and make sure you can attend every weekend. There are a lot of yoga poses I can’t do.  Can I still do a teacher training program and teach Yoga? Absolutely! There is no requirement to be able to perform each pose.  However, you still will learn instruction in how to teach poses you cannot physically do, and it’s inevitable that you will get better at your physical practice as well as the other practices through the course of  your training. So you may surprise yourself.

What physical style of Yoga does the training focus on? Trainees will learn how to teach asana based on Vinyasa, Astanga, Hatha, Yin and Restorative styles of Yoga.  Trainees will graduate with a unique blend of Yoga modified to suit your students’ needs.

Outside of the training hours, what is the time commitment required? Expect to spend about 3-10 hours between weekends on written assignments, reading assignments and other homework. The homework is designed to support the material covered in class and help you integrate what is presented into your own practice and teaching. You will also be required to complete 10 hours of your own personal practice. You will be given a 10 class pass to attend classes at the host studio while you are attending teacher training.  You may also choose to complete these hours at another studio at your own expense.

I am not sure I want to actually be a Yoga teacher, but I’m still interested.  Is this still something I should pursue? There is no requirement to become a teacher after having completed the program.  And without a doubt, one does not need to teach Yoga to get a tremendous amount out of this training. Yoga is a practice that can be a lens for how you live your whole life. Doing teacher training is an excellent way to empower yourself, align your life with your higher purpose, and keep yourself evolving at every level.

What is Yoga Alliance? Yoga Alliance is an organization that was started in 1999 as a way to create nationally recognized standards for yoga teachers and yoga teacher training. More and more yoga studios across the country are requiring their teachers to register with the Yoga Alliance, either at the 200 or 500 hour level.  Yoga Alliance registration, however, is not a legal requirement for teaching yoga. Currently there are no legal certification requirements to be a yoga teacher.

Will I be qualified to teach Yoga after this training? Yes! With the successful completion of all requirements of the program, including contact hours, homework, and exam, you will receive your certification at the 200-hour level. You will be qualified to teach thereafter if that becomes part of your path.
